Bike starts fine...nothing else

Postby rev71 » Thu May 01, 2014 2:00 pm

Hello....In trying to figure out why radio does not keep memory, I did something not good. Right now the 1982 GW Aspencade starts and runs great BUT I lost everything else!!!! no turn signals, horn, fuel gauage...etc. All the individual small fuses in the fuse bot under fake tank good....Where do I go from here?

I'll look at the schematic to be sure but as I recall the ignition system is sepetated from the switched system inside the ignition switch.
I'd first kill the ignition and then vigerously operate the ignition switch several times.Just to see if it might get the lighting to work.
If it even operates for a second, you've found the problem.

turn the key on and wiggle the start button a little, see if any lighting comes on. Had a CB750 Custom that had this issue once, turned out the contacts in the start button were dirty.

Thanks for the replies....Everything working now...I'm thinking the fuse box could be stripped and cleaned and new fuses might help.

I have noticed that the ACC Positive and Negative terminals at the fuse box are very sloppy...is that normal?

I had a fuse blow on my GL1100. When I pulled it out of the fuse box, the metal ends fell off the glass, and the fuse crumbled. The glue that held the ends onto the glass had dried and crumbled away, and allowed things to move enough to make the fuse heat up and blow. I pulled all of the other fuses out of my GL1100, and several more were in the same condition. I replaced them all with new.

Rev, did you do anything to it or did it just start working on its own?

I did nothing other then really make sure fuses had good contact......Leading to my next comment. I bought all new fuses today and will clean each holder thoroughly and put the new ones in.

Probably its as wingadmin says then. corroded fuse making intermittant contact. hope all works out for you.
