Fuel petcock, no fuel on tank, fuel on reserve

Postby riceman » Sun Jun 01, 2014 7:04 am

I have a 1982 Goldwing 1100 and when i have the fuel petcock turned to tank, the bike stalls out. When I turn it to reserve, the bike runs find. My fuel gauge shows that I have gas and I just filled the tank. Any suggestions to clear the clog. I just now put " Seafoam " into the gas to see if that will clear it.

Lower the fuel level to below the petcock, and take it apart and have a look to see what you can see. At the same time, back probe the fuel tubes with a piece of stiff wire.

easiest is to run an old speedo or tach cable up into the tubes using a drill to spin the cable. As said above drain the tank first, take petcock off and spin away..go slow after you get a bit in as you don't want to hole the screens.

A wire will work but it's a pain to shove it up and in all the way.

There are two separate pickups in the tank, one for the main and one for the reserve. Sounds like your main pickup is clogged - with rust, most likely.
