coolant at intake

Postby petarm1 » Mon Jun 02, 2014 8:26 pm

good day everyone, first nice day of the year in my area and the wife decided to take her interstate for a good long drive. (my gl1200 ltd is still down for no charging for the second year) when she got back she had a little sign of coolant on the right rear intake port on the head side just around the gasket. I am suspecting it is time to do the head gaskets but I am unfamiliar with why coolant would show up around the intake gasket and not come out the exhaust gasket side.
also her speedo head just started making loud squealing noises. can they be rebuilt or am I on the hunt for a new one.
I know you all can help with my troubles and look forward to your input.
thanks petar.

Could be the coolant pipe to elbow o-ring or the elbow gasket. I had a leak like you described and it ended up being the o-ring, thankfully.

It can leak only from one tube (crossover pipes), better to replace O-rings and gaskets (use gasket sealer here) on both pipes. I noticed coolant laying on top of the motor when mine went bad. Use a little vasiliene on the O-rings for an easier install. And clean the ends of the pipes very well as it is easy to cut your O-rings during installation. Tight working conditions. Regards, Johnyy

Thanks for the replies. I will get started on getting the parts. Any ideas on the noisy speedo head?
