Spark Plug Wires and Connectors

Postby canal mark » Thu May 20, 2010 9:43 am

I have a couple questions...I am restoring my 1980 Goldwing and I am in need of one of the plastic screw-on caps that hold the plug wire to the coil. I can not locate them anywhere. Does anyone know of a source for these? :? Question 2 ...I can not seem to get my plug wires to stay "screwed-in" to the spark plug wire caps :x . I replaced the YELLOW graphite core wires with the copper strand wires and after awhile, they seem to work loose and I develop a miss. I have performed a temporary fix using electrical tape  (Duct Tape just wouldn't look right LOL). If I use resistor wires with caps preinstalled, can I eliminate the stock plug caps?? Thanks

I've used stock car plug wires on my '80 gl1100 before. It didn't work bad at all, even though they weren't copper core. I had to cut the end off the wires that went to the coil and put the factory screw end on it. I ended up going on ebay and buying an ACCEL Super Coil kit for the bike. It came with 2 hotter coils, 9mm yellow wire, and tools to make the connections at the spark plug end. You cut the wire to the length you need for each plug, crimp the sparkplug clip onto the wire, and connect them up.

The coils come with mounts, but I used the old coil mounts for the new coils. I love them. I think they're an excellent replacement for the factory coils and wires.

I found a "fix" for the wires going into the spark plug boots. I put a few coats of liquid electrical tape around the area where the wire go into the boot. So far it has worked well and should help keep the water out as well.

Try www.partsnmore.com seen the caps on there for $3.50. Don't know what type of quality but they had them.
