Stiff Shifter on GL1100

Postby simcor » Tue Jun 03, 2014 8:33 pm

This GL1100 has been sitting for many years and the shift lever feels stiff when shifting between gears. I can shift but have to manually move the lever down a little, then shift up to the next gear. It feels like a spring is missing or something is too tight.

Anyone have/had something similar? Will it work it's way out when I start riding? Any ideas?

Appreciate the help..

take 8 oz of oil out and fill it back up with seafoam. Go ride a 100-150 miles and drain it right away.
Change the filter and put some Honda or rotella oil in it--for wet clutches.
After it has been sitting for many years -the seafoam will loosen the crud off the clutch- May have to do it a couple of times but usually once helps immensely.

I can't see how dirty clutch plates would make the shift lever stiff.

Just try riding it for a while...things that are usually in motion tend to work better when they are in motion.

The Seafoam may solve the problem however if the gears are gunked up even if it isn't the clutch. That is if you can run the engine yet. ???

I'll try the Seafoam and ride it around... Just finished rebuilding the cards and it runs well.. just can't get past 2nd gear very easily & the shifting is stiff.

Appreciate the help.
