Cant Get #3 Exhaust Valve Set 82GL1100 I

Postby rockford75 » Sat Jun 07, 2014 10:54 am

Hi Guys,

Iam setting the valve clearance on my Wing and cant get #3 exhaust to set up properly. Ive set the valves many times already and started the bike only to have noise coming from the right side. I put #1 Cylinder at TDC and gave the rocker arms a shake on #1 intake and exhaust valves had a little play but still was tight. So i knew i was at TDC. I check #3 exhaust and the rocker arm was really lose. I tried setting the clearance on #3 but when I do the rocker arm still seemed lose and I put everything back together and start the bike. Theres the noise again coming from the right side. So bent valve? I cant see how being the bike ran great last year when i rode it. I did change the timing belts. But after I gave the crank a spin a few times by hand and nothing jammed everything was fine. Sticking valve? How do I check and how do I fix this if thats the problem? :(

Back off valve and check compression?? If it's hanging open just a bit on it's own ..compression will be zip. Or leak down test.

The first thing I think of is a compression test. That will tell you if you have a sticky valve in that cylinder or not.
