1982 gl 1100 rattle

bought gl1100 and making a trike. test drive it today and have a rattle sound like a chain but they have belts. old belts in junk box with bike when bought it. maybe something loose in there? help

Your gonna have to describe it or post a video.
Perhaps a general location,did it rattle before the conversion,what conditions do you have the rattle,etc.
And yes,timing belt idler pullys could rattle,along with a long list of other things.

If it's rattling when you are accelerating at low speed in low gear (i.e. lugging the engine) it's most likely just the primary chain bashing around a bit. This is normally caused by poor carburetor sync. Sync the carbs and the rattle will go away.
