Swapping Fairing and Bags

Postby canal mark » Sun May 23, 2010 11:06 pm

Have any of you attempted to update the 1100 bags and fairing with 1200 or 1500 "clothes"? If so, what kind of difficulties did you encounter? I have a 1980 1100 Standard that has a Vetter fairing and the Hondaline bags. I really do not like the "suitcases" that have been installed for sadle bags and trunk. The fairing is not too bad but the bags have got to go. If nothing else I need to replace the trunk with an actual trunk instead of just another suitcase. I would ideally like to "convert" this bike to an Interstate or Aspencade :D .Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Get 1100 bags and trunk..what you have was only one model the suitcase..there is another that is a regular bag and trunk set up..on ebay all the time. I don't think the brackets that hold the 1200 or 1500 will fit a 1100 w/o some major modes..

I have a set of bag brackets for an 1100 I'd part with for $50 and a truck bracket for $30 plus shipping..the bag brackets have some road rash on the bottoms but otherwise in good shape then you can buy bags and a trunk on eBay from any year 80 to 83 all the same mounting specs
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,

Id go with RBG if I were you . With that said I attempted to put 1100 bags and fairing on a 75 1000 and after I bought the whole set up brakets bags fairing and all . I found out the hardway it was a waist of time :) (would have took some major fabrications) And would have been a waist of money too if it weren't for the fact that I happened to work at the M.C. salvage store where I got the stuff . But for the heck of it I was able to suspend the stuff up to the bike just to see how it would look . Yuk BOY was it ugly .

Sorry to Hijack the thread, but this seems appropriate as well...

I know someone has to have put leather saddlebags on an GL1100.

I like the Harley look but don't know if I need the Hondaline saddlebag stay to ensure bags don't get into the rear wheel. I see these stays on e-bay every so often, but they don't seem to have been mainstream...
