engine removal help.

Postby 1fastgl1100 » Thu Jun 26, 2014 8:30 pm

I am removing the engine from my 82 GL1100 and have everything loose except the drive shaft will not release from the rear of the engine (tranny) is there a clip or anything that has to be removed first?

Yes. There is a circlip you have to remove. It hides under the rubber boot. That is the worst part of removing and installing the engine.

I have looked and looked yet I cannot find any circlip. I am sure your correct and it is there. does anyone have a picture of where it is and how to access it?

Have a look at this thread: Driveshaft removal, 81 Interstate

The circlip is INSIDE the U-joint, accessed through the slot where the arrow points.

Just remember how you had your tongue hanging when you go to put it back together.
Keep us posted on you findings.

Yeah lots of little bags with labeled bolts and nuts... Came apart fairly easy (except Driveshaft) I kinda hope it goes back together as nicely.... LOL
