82 Aspencade

Postby bdukes » Sat Jun 28, 2014 9:37 pm

I have a 82 Aspencade that I rebuilt shocks 2 weeks ago. What a different it made .Wife likes it too. This week I made the Dodge Neon coil swap.Missed hooking up ground wire.Starter would not engage. Finally started, ran rough.Hooked ground wire up,runs great.Went for ride in rain.Stopped for gas, shut off petcock.Took off and about 1 mile down road started running rough again.Died at stop light. The reason I changed coils was it ran rough in the rain.Started looking over bike, saw i had not turn the gas back on.Tryed to start bike no starter.Pushed bike to start fired but didn't start.Hit starter button fired up.Now bike will not start without clutch pulled in.If bike is in neutral you shouldn't have to pull in clutch should you?

It's possible a couple different things could be going on. The diode connected to the neutral switch, that allows the starter to work when in neutral might be failed/failing. If it fails shorted, you will know because the neutral light on the dash will turn on whenever you squeeze the clutch. If it fails open, you'll know because you will not be able to start the bike in neutral without squeezing the clutch.

You can replace it with any decent diode, it doesn't have to be a Honda diode. It's a 10 cent part encased in a metal thing with tabs on it. I replaced the one in my GL1100 with a 3 amp, 40 volt diode that I had sitting around in my electronic parts bin, and it worked just fine.

You can buy blade fuse holders with the eyelits already on all you have to do is screw them on to the screw holes that held the dogbone fuse and yoiu are good to go adn either cut the little flap door off or cut notches in it to let the wires out aroudn the sides of it.

HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,
RB
