Make sure you release all air pressure first! Drain the oil by removing the drain bolt. Pump the shocks up and down to make sure all of the oil has drained out. Replace the drain bolt, and refill with fork oil, or ATF (automotive automatic transmission fluid). 15 weight fork oil works well. You can inject it using a syringe through the air hole in the top.

Capacity:

1980-1981: 220cc (7.4 oz)
1982-1983: 270cc (9.1 oz)

Most use and the Honda manual says to use ATF- Automatic transmission fluid.
That is what I put in my forks. and I use the rest of the atf in my gas tank-6-8 oz in each tankful. Makes the carbs slide better and lubes them also.

Right out of the Honda 1980-1983 Service Manual, page 12-7:

It says "1982 -" as in "1982 and later." That notation is used quite often throughout the manual.
