timing belt teeth

Postby 4wred » Sat Jul 05, 2014 8:24 am

I was doing a little research on timing belts.Saw alternate belt part #'s for gates, napa, goodyear. The napa belt has 87 teeth, the other belts I've seen online have 88 teeth. How can these other belts work if they don't have the same # of teeth??

Not sure about your part #s. The 1000/1100 use the 87 tooth belt and the 1200 for sure and (maybe the 1500???) uses the 88 tooth belt.

They won't. Be sure you buy the right thing and have your part numbers correct.

Yeah, don't mess around with the timing belt. Spring for the correct one. You don't want to screw up your pistons/valves/head trying to save a couple bucks. Save your cash on engine oil....

Any Napa, Bumper to Bumper or Pep Boys, etc could get you the right belts for cheap... and you can make sure they are the right ones.
