1982 GL1100I Rear Brakes

Postby Slider » Sun Jul 06, 2014 11:13 am

Hi all. I attempted to find the answer by searching the forum, but am still not sure what my problem is. When depressing the rear brake, the pedal stays down. I have rebuilt the rear master cylinder (twice) as the first time I got the first seal in backwards. It initially worked just fine. Now it applies the brakes (some what) but the pedal will not return to the up position. Had a problem with dragging brakes in the past and rebuilt the rear caliper. Trying to find a replacement has been difficult. Any thoughts? Any spares available?

Thanks

You have to make sure ALL the holes are clean in the master cylinder. Other than that, this site's instructions are perfect to the 'T'. Make sure you follow what the boss man posted "exactly".

Rear master cylinder rebuild: http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=57

If the rear caliper ain't workin':

The bossman is good with this! Shoot, I was on a poker run, and my rear wheel seized up. I just opened up the bleeder valve, let the fluid out, and used my front brakes to stop the bike after that. 90% of the braking is done by the front, right? LOL

This is actually a pretty common GL1100 problem. Have a look at these threads:

Rear Brake Pedal stays down when depressed and released

Stuck rear brake pedal

Removing brake pedal

X2, spray the crap out of it with penetrating oil, let it seep.
