I have a 82 GL1000 with oe grips, and want to install new foam grips. Is there any secret to doing this.Any help is appreciated. I haven'd done this for a number of years, and can't remember how I did them in the past.

I put foam grips on my 82, and once I got the old ones off (I ended up cutting them off, much easier) I just dampened the foam ones with water with a tiny bit of dish soap in it, and slid them on. Once they dried, they were on solid, and haven't moved in the year and a half since I did them.

As far a putting them on - I've used hair spray for this job for years. A fairly good application on the handle bar/throttle slide and just a light one inside the new grip. This lubricates the grip going on and holds it in place when the hairspray sets up a short time later.
