Droped Cylinder

Postby moneypit » Fri Aug 01, 2014 7:14 am

Yesterday out of the blue my 1100 dropped a cylinder at a stop light . Once under way with some throttle it began firing and seems ok until I stopped again back to 3 again im thinking 1 of the carbs has a plugged idle circuit . 1 day earlier changed plugs. I figured buying a 83 I would have some probs and sure enough I am . I don't think its electrical because all 4 fire with some throttle off idle. What do you think...

Have you tested the plug wires and coils, known to fire at idle but miss as rpm increases.

By your diagnosis it does sound like the idle circuit is plugged.
Especially if it only stops firing at a idle.
Do confirm this by starting from cold, hold a idle for 8 seconds.Lightly tap each header.the cold one is dead.Restart the bike and hold 3000 rpm for a few seconds.See if the temp comes up on that cold pipe.
Careful of the heat.
