Self Cancelling Turn Signals

Postby cpetku » Mon May 31, 2010 12:19 pm

Does anyone know how to troubleshoot these?

I am new to this bike (82 standard) as I purchased it a month ago with lots of problems. The wiring harness had several wrong connections preventing the right turn signals and running lights from working. I assume this was due to the previuous owner trying to guess at how to make the bike run again.

I know the switch is good since applying 12V to the Blue wire causes the cancel feature to work. I replaced the control box (from e-bay) hoping this would be the culprit but no joy. I have meters and scopes to try and figure this out, but the 82 standard wiring diagrams on this site don't seem to match the bike. Neither do the 83's.

The cancel wire is just connected to a little solenoid inside there that yanks the turn switch back to "off" - just because the solenoid is working doesn't necessarily mean the turn switch is working.

I have never found the circuit diagrams not to match my bike - which one are you looking at?

I was using the 83 standard and assuming that the "horn" button in the diagram is really the canceling solenoid. After tearing through the wiring harness I finally found my culprit (corroded connection) which was causing no power to the cancel unit. Cleaned it up and took the bike out tonight. Much better than manually cancelling but it does occasionally cancel before I completed the turn.
