Kydex side panels?

Postby ankgrays » Tue Aug 26, 2014 12:05 pm

I have a friend that has a side business of making custom "form fitted" gun holsters, from sheets of Kydex.

I wonder if anyone has ever tried to make replacement side panels out of this stuff?

Form fit the sheets to an old panel, and maybe attach to the frame another way other than the "stub and grommet" way??

I am one of the most frugal (tight wad) people that you will ever meet.

The problem you might find with that is that Kydex becomes soft and pliable at relatively low temperatures - which is how they form it to fit the firearms. It's possible the everyday operating heat coming from the bike could make Kydex thermoformed side panels too soft to hold their shape.
