fan turns on when key turned on

did i put the wire connection on backwards for the fan switch ? finaly got it all back together after new water pump instal thanks for this site guys great tech tips

The fan switch just connects the output of the fan motor to ground, completing the circuit. Try disconnecting the black wire from the fan switch - if the fan still runs, then that black wire is shorted to ground somewhere. If the fan doesn't run when the black wire is disconnected, then the fan switch may be shorted on inside. Also check to make sure the fan switch terminals aren't shorted together or otherwise touching one another.

could it be the temp sensor its brass and has a black rubber boot and two prongs that plug into sensor would it make a difference which plug its plugged into( WAS NOT FAN SWITCH SORRY ) i ment the TEMP sensor it can fit on the plug either way i flip it does it make a difference thought thats how it was before i took it off to do water pump it did not kick on till temp was just a little over half way on the guage now it runs and its only on a 1/4 up on the temp guage nice its running cooler but want to make sure its rite thanks

It looks like the sensor is a switch that's either open (and the fan isn't running) or closed (which turns the fan on).
I am wrong as often as I am right concerning what is wrong with someone else' motorcycle without having seen the machine in person. Guessing with limited information, as to the source of the trouble, is sketchy at best.

thermo switch.jpg this is the switch does it make a difference which way the plug goes when plugging into it i can also flip it and plug in does it matter could that make it turn on sooner i will unplug it and flip it see if it makes any difference

I am not positive, but it seems a "DC" fan might run backward if the polarity is reversed.

i just got it back running after water pump instal drove it for an hour seemed to stay very cool so i will wait and see how she does thanks

It is only an open/closed switch, makes no difference which way the wires are put on, all it does is connect the 2 wires together.
