easy access to pulse generators and mechanical advancer

Post by 82aspen » Wed Sep 24, 2014 7:14 pm

lotsa folks know for 1100s, the Pulse Generators (if they fail = no spark) and mechanical advancer are at the back of the engine,

i mostly read that access was mainly either via engine removal or swingarm fuel tank removal, eitherway, a major pia

just found out you can just loosen/remove(?) the swingarm bolts(s), which allows moving the swingarm aft ~ 1", which allows access to remove the ignition cover,

good thing to know if the PGs fail on a looooong scoot

i'd like to know if the same thing is possible with the 84/1200 that has the same deal, as far as PGs go

Yup, moving the swingarm back like that can help with a lot of procedures like that, for which the manual insists you need to pull the engine. I know on the GL1500, instead of pulling the whole swingarm to change the universal joint, you can just undo the right side, **** it over a bit, and it gives you enough clearance to get in there.
