GL1000 ignition on a GL1100

Postby Phavas » Tue Sep 30, 2014 11:26 am

Has anyone done this? I got the cams, distributor, condensor etc... and want to disconnect the GL1100 Pulse Generator system.
If anyone has done this, can they advise on the wiring? It looks pretty straight-forward: Blue to one coil, yellow to the other, but is there something I missed? I also have a couple of DYNA units: should I use these rather than the points? I want to do this because I cannot control the timing on my GL1100 and it overheats and gives me spark knock. It is a PIA to remove the rear forks just to adjust the timing, so I figured I'd swap it over to the old system.

Any input is greatly appreciated. :?:

Cheers,
PJH

If you think setting the timing on the 1100 is tough, imagine what it will be like with points back there.
Talk about hard to get to for adjustments when they need it.
Your timing problem and pinging are related.?Ok
Normally the 1100 sets 10* before TDC at start up..then can advance to near 23* with the mechanical.Vacuum takes it to above 30*
Actually the vacuum canister is where it's first adjusted.
Some remove the retainer and put in a bolt so they can turn the canister for "fine tuning" the timing.

No, you missed my point: I want to move the ignition to the left cylinder head and run it off a GL1000 cam, so I CAN adjust the timing.
I will just disconnect the pulse generators.
