Auto canceling signals

Postby Tol99 » Wed Oct 01, 2014 10:06 pm

I recently purchased an 1982 standard and I am in the process of getting everything to work again. Currently working on the auto canceling blinkers. When I turn on the key I hear a click in the left handle bar control. It is not instantaneous maybe .5-1 second delay. If I turn on the blinker then turn on the key, the blinker will cancel immediately then I will hear the normal click. Is all this normal?

Reading an earlier post, Virgil gives a good method to check the angle sensor but is there a way to check if the speed sensor in speedometer is working? The speedometer is working fine.

Any help is appreciated.

If you find the problem let us know.
I have almost the same problem - blinkers work on low beam but put the high beam on and it does what yours does shuts off right now.

What I would like to know is a simple way to defeat this function all together!!!!!

Mine "works" but it cancels too soon when approaching a corner and after I restart the turn signal, it cancels too late after I shift up. Very annoying .....

Thanks.

Have a nice day! :)

On the 1100...if memory serves me right...the cancler can just be unplugged.
This would be the cancler that operates the switch for you.Not the "push to cancle" type.
The click you hear is the cancler operating that solenoid at the turn signal switch...and yes,it's not suppose to click when you turn on the key.Your cancler is bad.
There is a wire on the cancler that should switch hi and low volts as the front wheel is turned.
As far as turning off too fast....not much can be done about that. The timing circuits are built into the cancler.

Thanks Virgil. Just to be clear by "canceler" do you mean the control box under the false tank or the solenoid in the handle bar? I did confirm that the speed sensor is sending pulses to the control. Still need to check the angle sensor.

On a happy note I did build a 7 volt regulator and get my gauges working tonight.

The box under the shelter. The part in the turn signal assembly is just a solenoid. When pulsed,it releases the lever back to center.
If you wanted to go basic,a dual 555 timer firing a FET.
One half triggered to a 60 second time firing the other half for the half second release pulse.
Or just replace it.
