The 1983 GL1100A should be digital. I don't think that Aspencade came with an analog instrument panel.

The instrument lighting is really easy to access, if you have a stubby Phillips or better yet a stubby JIS screwdriver. I cant remember exactly how many screws hold it together but there will be somewhere between 3 and 5 all accessible on the back of the panel. once you get the screws out the back easily pulls off and the bulbs can be removed by pulling the rubber housings out. I think someone may have posted a DIY about it a while back. If not PM and I can send you some pics I took while working on mine.

Are you looking to replace the bulbs with LED's or are you just replacing with new incandescent bulbs?

This is what the bulbs look like once pulled out of the dash:

Once removed from the socket:

The bulb will then separate into the 'bulb' and the 'rubber seat'. The bulb can be easily removed but you will need to gently work the wire leads out of the 'seat' from the bottom first and then it can be removed.

When replacing my burned out lights I made the mistake of taking the 'bulb' and 'seat' together as one piece to various automotive and motorcycle shops. None of them had any idea what it was that i was showing them. I eventually replaced all the bulbs with LEDs.

You can see these and more images and the LEDs i used in this thread (http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15374).
Incidentally that post was under a different profile I had that I since lost the password for and created this current profile.

Replacing these bulbs is super easy. I knew basically nothing about electronics when I replaced mine, but I have since learned a great deal from this website.
