Has anyone replaced the Clarion 2 w/ a more mainstream radio

Postby PalmBayChuck » Mon Jun 07, 2010 10:45 am

I just purchased an 82' GoldWing which has a full function Clarion 2 unit installed (Radio, CB, Intercom). The Radio seems to be working, but I get no audio at the speakers. I'm thinking about yanking the unit completely and replacing it with a mainstream AM/FM marine radio that I can connect my iPod to, but the Clarion unit looks for thin (or perhaps shallow would be a better description). Has anyone installed a standard DIN sized radio in the left side of the fairing?

I'm new to the Goldwing world and I'm not really sure what's out there. Still doing research.

I am in the process of installing a JVC radio/cd player in my 82 Interstate (in the center or the fairing). If you aren't in a hurry for an answer I should know how it goes by the end of the week. I don't think clearance is going to be an issue though.

There is space behind that panel - although you'll lose the left hand fairing pocket if you try. You might want to look into working with the radio you have - Sierra Electronics will typically fix them for a flat fee of $100, which is less than you're going to pay for a new marine radio.

Yes I have. Did it on a 1981 Goldwing. Put it in the left side pocket and used a DIN sized radio and EQ/AMP add on. I had posted pics earlier today, but here they are again:

If you have the OEM radio and amplifier, it will all have to be removed in order for this to work as I have done, also you may need to locate/fabricate a blank up panel for the front of the fairing. (that is where the HD Radio is sitting on my Wing)....
