HELLO MY NAME IS JACK AND LIVE IN MICHIGAN, I HAVE 0WNED 1000 1100 1500 GOLDWINGS......I BOUGHT A 1983 ASPENCADE, BASKET CASE, STARTER WAS BURNED OUT, I HAD HYDRO LOCK AND AFTER INSTALLING A NEW STARTER HEARD A LOUD BANG AS I TRYED TO TURN THE BIKE OVER. I PULLED THE ENGINE THINKING IT WAS THE STARTER CHAIN INSIDE. IT WAS JUST THE SMALL SPIDER GEARS IN THE REDUCTION STARTER. I NEVER HEARD THE BIKE RUN AND OBVIOUSLY PREVIOUS OWNERS GAVE UP. I HAVE VERY WEAK YELLOW SPARK. EXCITERS ? ECU ? IS THERE A WAY TO TEST COMPONENTS INSTEAD OF REPLACING ALL OF THEM ? ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED !!! JACK

Are you at the point of trying to start it and having problems.???
A weak spark is usually attributed to low battery volts...Yes the bike may crank over but if the volts start to fall below 10 volts at the coils,the spark will suffer....
Measure the available battery volts during cranking...you really want to see above 11.5 volts.
A corroded kill switch can reduce the spark quality too.

There are 3 parts to each half of the ignition system on the 1100.
The pulse coil(pulse generator)...theres 2 of them...each one can be measured with a ohm meter to be sure they are in specs..
The ignition coil(also 2 of them) have resistance measurements of both the primary winding and secondary winding,including the wires and caps...
The "spark igniters/ignition module" (also 2 of them)..there is no meter testing...
If the ignition system has proper voltage and the ignition modules have a good ground...the pulse coils measure OK and the coils measure OK...and there is poor spark,the ignition modules are replaced...
Generally speaking..it's rare that they are bad...Ignition problems are usually associated with low volts or corroded grounds/connections....
