The 500 dollar goldwing/paint time!

Postby urbanmadness » Thu Nov 06, 2014 7:16 pm

I bought an 82' goldwing aspincade from a hippie in berkley on Valentines day. It broke a timing belt on the way home so, we changed the head and put her back together and I've put 6,000 miles on the bike since. I love it. Well, it did need some help in the cosmetics department, and I didn't want the bike to look like every other 1100gl, so I decided to paint it. Keep in mind, this is a daily driver and a very dependable bike so, tearing it completly down wasn't an option.

I started with the saddle bag tops... They were by far the worst panels on the bike. Not just scratched, these things were goudged. I did lots of filling and sanding to get them right. Then came the base color. White, then since I'm never happy with things, I went ahead and broke out the airbrush and some candy.

I then started the truck, side covers, fearing and tank shelter. Here is where I am with the bike so far. I have the front and rear fenders and saddle bag bottoms to do......

Update my100 dollar paint job

Postby urbanmadness » Mon Nov 10, 2014 1:04 am

Well, this weekend I did the front fender and the bags... I'm into this project about 100 bucks at this point... It's really updated the bike, I think. It is now a one of a kind 1100gl. Yeah, skulls on a goldwing isn't for everyone, but I do like it. I may have to redo the pinstrips, as I used pinstripe tape, and it's lifting in a few places. I may air brush them on.... Yeah it's a cheat, but they won't lift that way. I finished the front fender, but I haven't put it back on yet as I will need to pull the front wheel to do that. I have all the rails back on the saddle bags (I don't have a picture of that yet) and the trunks back in place.... I'll post a picture of all of that tomorrow.

That paint looks awesome!!Love the skulls.
Just wondering why you said you have to pull front wheel to get the fender back on??
I've removed, replaced front fender a few times with the wheel on my project bike carefully up and out the back side of the wheel.
Just have to be careful not to scratch that new paint.

Just an update.... I finished the saddle bags and bolted all the rails back on and the lights. I still have two LED's in the two flaps under the turn signals to wire back up. I bolted up the front fender tonight (don't have a pic of that yet) and it's now under it's cover (garage is full at the moment and of course it's suppose to rain tonight)
