going from LCD to analog dash

Postby roadwanderer2 » Sat Nov 15, 2014 11:34 am

here's a new question or topic.

is it possible to go from an LCD display to the analog instrument gauge cluster with all the other functions that goes with it, i.e. turn signals, oil, water temp, natural light and fuel display. I was wondering about changing my '83 aspy's LCD dash to one from a '80-'83 std or interstate instrument cluster. I want to make room for a cycle sound fairing mounted stereo. any opinions, thoughts?. I understand that the speedo cable and the tac cable will have to be changed, but is there anything other than rerouting the pilot wiring and bulbs?

stuart.

You may have to change the fuel and temperature senders as well, I suspect they will be different. Also, the speedo hub needs to be changed. There are lots of connectors that won't match, so you'll have to do some matching of wires and making of connectors/adapters. Not an impossible job, but certainly not an easy one.

hey wing:

I didn't think it was imposable, but im sure it'll be a little difficult with matching up and or splicing wires to get them to function properly. I assumed the speedo gear would have to be changed to accept a new speedo cable but what about the LCD tachometer, would I also have to install a new cable, if so, where would I have to connect it to other than at the tachometer housing on the gauges. the one that's on it now, where is it connected to the engine via the fuel pump or on the motor itself?

stuart.
