Water out of Radiator when cap off

Postby Aussie81Interstate » Sat Dec 06, 2014 8:00 pm

Hi,

Checking out my new addition -1981 GL1100 Interstate. When I remove the radiator cap - should fluid drain from the overflow bottle to the radiator causing it to overflow?
I suppose it should - because the overflow tank is higher than the radiator filler cap?

How hard/difficult is it to change the thermostat, and roughly how long would it take?
I am reasonably mechanically capable - and have the available tools.

thanks for your answers

Charlie

There are some good How-To articles on this subject, here is one:

There are others there as well which might give you some hints as to how to proceed.

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

No, it should not. The cold temperature "full" line on the coolant reservoir is below the radiator filler cap, so it should not siphon downward when the cap is opened. If the coolant reservoir is overfilled, it's possible that this would happen however.

Have a look at: How to flush your coolant system

Thank you,

I'll check the level - and if I do overfill it - if so - I'll do a test and see if it stops overflowing when it reaches the full level on the reservoir. It's only got plain water in it at the moment, so a little experiment won't hurt.
