GL1100 progressive shocks

hey ppl's.

first let me say MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone.

now here's my question.......does anyone know where I can get a rebuilding kit for a pair of stock 416 progressive rear shocks for my '83 aspy? the ones I have I need to put air into them every couple of days and its getting rather annoying to have to keep taking the seat off to do it. I tapped the tops of them to NPT18 thread and put Schrader valves in them with liquid thread sealant and they still are loosing air. I would much rather try to rebuild these than have to go out and spend $300 to $400 bucks for a new pair.

btw, I went and bought a pair of brand new heavy duty replacement shocks, (stock height for the '83 aspy), with a 5 manual tension settings. I put them on for about 50 miles and took them back off and put my air shocks back on. for my bike, they are too stiff. they make the bike ride very hard. guess I don't have enough weight in the back for them to work properly. I also bought a brand new travelcade double saddle seat that I put on and took back off because its not good for my wife, it makes her back hurt.

in case anyone's interested, I would be willing to sell the shocks AND the seat for less than what I paid for them, and trust me, the shocks and the seat weren't cheap as im sure you g/winger's know what it costs to replace some of these things on these older wings.

please reply,

thanks,

stuart, a.k.a. roadwanderer2.

I don't believe there are rebuild kits for 416's. You can send them to Progressive and they will rebuild them for around $35, but outside of oil seals, I've not seen rebuild kits available for them.
