Removing fairing

Postby 19GoldWing83 » Sat Dec 27, 2014 4:34 pm

I'm going to rebuild my front forks, is it easier with the fairing off, or can it be done with it on?
Thanks. Pete.

Just drop the forks right out of the triple tree, the fairing doesn't need to be touched. You can see me do this on my GL1500 in How to rebuild your front forks - obviously it is far more complex in the GL1500, as there is more "stuff" to take off to get to the forks than there is on the GL1100.

I did not touch my fairing when I redid my front forks.
Lesson I learned is if the forks are pitted, which will tear the seals when you put them on, is to take jb weld and fill in the pits. Then sand smooth.
