83 ASPY antenna

Postby Mspinner » Sat Jan 03, 2015 2:46 pm

ok...i have the clarion2 on my aspy. i get faint AM stations and only a couple very faint FM. I have read ALL the post on the radio here but never came across this question. I know its or at least pretty sure its the antenna. PO had a broken one on it then screwed on a crappy short plastic one on but get the same crap with both. so, i need to get another regardless. i dont care about the CB as I doubt ill ever use it. but, do I need an antenna that is for both radio and CB for it to function? Even if i dont plan on useing the CB? Or can i get a regular car antenna? i have the splitter and all seems connected. i wasnt able to keep the time or saved stations but the fuse was blown so i hope that was the problem there. going thru all the fuses today in the fairing. thanx for the help

The Add On aftermarket is a direct replacement for the OEM antenna.

Thanx Wayne ...I still would like to know if the reception for my radio will only function with the CB/ FM tuner antenna. Because of the CB/radio splitter? I'm not understanding. I don't care about the CB. But I do want a radio. was just wondering because of how everything was wired if that was the case

Just bypass the splitter and plug antenna into the female radio connection.

Yes Wayne I could do that, maybe. Everything is wired to the harness. This still doesn't answer my ? I realize the CB cannot work with a regular car antenna. When u have a radio/CB combo antenna, I'm assuming the splitters job is to separate the two signals. So, if I screwed a car antenna onto what's all already there, would I get radio reception? Still going into the splitter? I know I won't get CB. Don't care. Everything is in place nice and tucked in and neat. Just need to screw on a new antenna. Or do I still need to get the radio/CB antenna if my plan is to use the set up that's already in place to receive radio signal.

The AM/FM will work with pretty much anything you put on it. The radio will work with or without the splitter. You may have a hard time using the antenna mount and wiring that is there unless you use an OEM style antenna.

What I did on my aspy was I took the right fairing pocket out and pulled the antenna lead out of the tuner and plugged in a known good antenna bypassing all the factory connections, unfortunately it didn't solve the problems I was having with my reception.
I have a spare tuner from my 2nd bike I'm gonna try over the winter to see if it solves the problem.Other posts I've read about this problem seem to point at a bad tuner if the problem continues with a good antenna.

Yea, from what I've been reading sounds like the tuner. I need an antenna anyway so I'll try to by-pass first before I hunt down a new tuner?
