Drive shaft circlip

Postby robertdawber » Sat Jan 03, 2015 11:01 pm

Any advice on removing the circlip on the drive shaft (under the boot) to finish removing my engine? I have the correct tool-it is tight and dark in there! Maybe someone has done this and can offer a few tips before I begin tomorrow morning?

Get a good bright light above the boot.
Roll the boot back and use pointed points to get the circlip off. It can be done but it sure is a pain in the a?? to get off.

Remember how you get it off so you can put it back on.

I have never removed that clip.... I have taken my swingarm off many times... I remove the one at the rear of the shaft... I guess I will break down and buy the correct circlip removing tool if I ever need to, until then I just made my own removing tool using a set of long needlenose pliers and removing the rear clip... Messy but once the grease is cleaned out it's a snap to remove it...

It was actually not bad at all. I had it off inside of 10 minutes. Getting the light just right helps. Having the right tool was key.
