Which clutch for '82 GL1100?

Postby SneakyPete1100 » Mon Jan 12, 2015 4:37 pm

So...

I have a choice of two clutch actuating mechanisms to fit to my '82 motor - one has a flat 'button' operated by a notched rotating post, the other has a small pushrod and cup.

The original clutch used the button type but as I recall was rather heavy in operation - would there be any pro's/con's to using the pushrod set-up?

If it will fit...but if you really want to reduce forces, the hydraulic clutch from a GL1200 will fit in there unmodified. If I remember correctly, the GL1200 oil drive sprocket has an extra tooth, so it will drive the scavenge oil pump a bit faster. Of course, you'll have to fit a hydraulic master cylinder as well as a hydraulic line down to the clutch as well.

Ah, I probably should have been clearer - I have a choice of used clutches and covers to keep my rebuild cost waaaay low(!) The 12 clutch sounds like a good idea when cash allows.

I have pulled a really good looking assembly and genny from a motor that has been 'stored' outside for 14 years

The clutch plate thickness is near enough to brand new - not bad considering the last time the motor was used it was in this:

I wouldn't have believed it until seeing it with my own eyes, but now I know it's true. The UK does have a population of hillbillies!
