Turn Signal Issue

Postby moneypit » Wed Jan 21, 2015 2:32 pm

Moneypits left turn signal stays on all the time the indicator also is on all the time. When I turn on the left turn signal it flashes like it should. I turn on the right turn signal it works. The left indicator and turn stays on so left is on all the time no matter what. Any ideas what might be causing this ... Please let me know... thanx...

Is it on full brightness? Or is it on somewhat dim, but then flashes at full brightness when you turn the left turn signal?

W A. its normal bright on steady and when it flashes . the only thing that was different is I am using a jump it for power I have the battery out for the winter . the voltage coming out of the jump it is 12.8 volts . when I put the bike up in oct. I had no problems.. I will put the battery back in later and try it . the reason im working on it is I changed everything over to L E D s . I have already changed the flasher to an electronic flasher last summer when I changed the front turns to LEDs.

Looking at the schematic, the only obvious component that could be causing this is the turn switch itself. If it is dirty, and is conducting enough power to light up your LEDs when the switch is off (which isn't a huge amount), they will then light up - but not enough power is being conducted to activate the flasher. When you flick the switch to Left, it then gives the full amount of power, and it operates normally.

I would disconnect the turn switch and measure the switch contacts between the orange/white and brown/white wires. When the switch is off, there should be infinite resistance, and when the switch is on, no resistance. If you're seeing anything else when it is off (i.e. 300 ohms or anything other than infinite resistance) then that's going to be your problem - in which case it needs to be taken apart and cleaned out with electrical contact cleaner.
