another brake question

Postby urbanmadness » Tue Feb 03, 2015 11:00 am

Hey guys,

I have a 82 aspy, Love the bike, it's awesome, everything works. Well other then the stereo that I've replaced.

So, I'd like to start stashing a few parts, specifically brake rotors. As I understand it the 82' aspincade had different rotors then the interstate and standard (mine are vented). Can you use rotors from an interstate?

If I decided to change to '83 wheels (alloys instead of comstars), what would I need to change on the brakes?

You can't use Interstate rotors, the width is different. The 82 Aspencade brakes truly are unique to all other bikes.

You could switch to the alloy wheels instead of Comstars. I don't *think* the Aspy rotors will bolt onto the Comstars (different bolt pattern/size), which means you'd need 83 rotors and calipers as well.

what about changing out calipers and rotors? Will the interstate calipers mount up to the forks?

82 rotors will bolt onto 83 rims without a problem. 83 rims fit the 82 aspy no problems. I did it with zero issues. 8-)

Mine's an '82 Aspy.

But I am the market for some front rotors.... Just to have a spare set. If I have to change over to interstate rotors, I need to know what else I need. Maybe I can find a set of wheels with good rotors. who knows. Mine are OK, but they are diffently not "mint"...

I think it is sooooo funny that everyone assumed you meant the rear rotors and calipers.....lol I did at first you know why? Because you never said for the front  ....I thought the same thing ha ha ha .... Good fake out...I love it.....Hope you figure it out.. Maybe ebay has what you need,, Todd has lots of part bikes I think.... I had a set of rotors turned once at a machine shop,,,costly but like new..

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye out on ebay. Just trying to figure which way I want to go with it.

Eventually I'd like all three rotors and matching calipers but I of course do not want linked brakes.

Oh I know,,, I'm so glad I don't have those... the 83 is the best year but the brakes are linked, hey, have you changed out the brake lines with new ones,,, really made a huge change in my brakes when I did
them....
