Tyres

Postby Michael DC » Mon Jun 14, 2010 1:47 am

Good day all
First of all, I'll say thanks to Wingadmin and others, who makes a big effort in doing all these DIY articles and answering all our questions. It is a tremendous help and very interesting. Thanks :D
My question this time is regarding the tyre size. Is it possible to use another profile. (My bike is Interstate 1981). Normally it would use 110/90 - 19 in front and 130/90 - 17 in rear.
Could I instead use 110/80-19 and 130/80-17 or combinations here of.
If not - could somebody pls. explain me why... :?:

Best regards Michael

Changing the profile of tour tires will lower your ride height and possibly throw your speedometer off a bit. As far as I know that would be the only issues. What I am wondering is why would you want to? The only advantage to low profile tires is less roll during high speed cornering, and your crash bars will hit before any tire roll would occur.

My two cents, Z

You also need to consider sidewall clearance when thinking about changing tire profiles. There is not a lot of clearance on the front wheel, and even less on the rear wheel.
