Leaky carb...

Postby Overdog » Sun Feb 08, 2015 2:36 pm

About halfway through last season I started smelling raw gas when riding...as time went on I found that the bottom of #3 carb was wet with gas...then I saw evidence of a few drips onto the motor. I've got the bike in the garage and getting started on some winter maintenance..I was out earlier looking for the leak. It's something to do with the accelerator pump...when I twist the grip I'm now seeing gas dripping from the area above and to the left of where the fuel line from the fuel pump attaches. Any idea what could be leaking and is it something that can be taken care of without pulling the carbs? The bike's only got 33K miles on it and, other than the leak, the carbs seem fine & I really didn't want to pull them. Thanks in advance. -----bob-----

No you have to pull the carbs..could be bad bowl gasket, floats set wrong or sticking, internal o ring gone bad.

I pulled the fuel line off of the carb so I could better see what's going on.... when you twist the grip, fuel is squirting upward from around the little rod that works the accelerator pump...I assume there's an o-ring there that's gone bad? Anyone familiar with this problem? I guess the carbs will be coming off :(

Thanks! I guess the question now is if it's possible to install that kit without pulling the carbs....
