plastic flags on carbs

Postby glasshead » Fri Feb 13, 2015 8:43 pm

I read a post about using a soldering iron to get those plastic flag looking things off the adjustment screws on the bottom of the carbs. I don't remember under what post it was and what the screws adjusted. Anybody?

They are air/gas flow actually regular gas flow but are referred as idle mix screws..depending on the year usually set to 1-1/2 to 2 turns out for all the way in...BUT don't over tighten to start or you may break off the tip/lodge it in the carb body and ruin the carb. They can it poked out if broken off but it can ruin the port..

Just used to set idle once you are running they really don't effect much..

It sounds like I should just leave the tabs on. I thought maybe the screws could be used when synching the carbs.

They are adjusted after the carb sync.its referred to as the " idle down" adjustment.they set the fuel/air mixture at a idle.the manual has specific instructions on how it's done.

The caps are limiters so you "can't over tighten or loosen the screws..some grind off the stop on the carb bowl,
some remove the caps so they can turn them using a tool built to reach in there.
