Idle Issue

Postby Shawn15290 » Wed Feb 18, 2015 11:06 pm

Hey all, looking for help with this idle issue I have. I have an 83 GL11oo Interstate. I will set the idle screw for about 900-1000ish RPM's while idling. Staying in town there isnt much of an issue, but when I go onto the highway, even for a minute, once I pull in the clutch the RPM's will stay at about 2200-2500. I will then readjust the idle screw for about 900-1000 RMP's only for it to do the same thing. Any suggestions???

Shawn

Sounds like sticky cables or gummed up slides.

If its holding revs when you pull the clutch in - does the throttle snap back or is it sluggish?
check the choke cable adjustment as well..lubricate, lubricate, lubricate.

Hey,

Thanks for the reply. I dont think the throttle has ever "snapped" back on it. This is my first bike, and I would rather not take it to a shop that is going to cost me my left arm, right leg, and blood of my first born eh, lol. How exactly do I check the cables, and how do I know when they are at the right adjustment?

There should be between 2-6mm of free play, measured at the throttle flange (the most inboard portion).

Throttle Free Play
Throttle Free Play
