Well I finally got time to look at my 82 GL1100 that wouldn't start. I pulled the plugs to eliminate compression and hit the starter, it only clicked. Last time I tried to start it it turned over then sounded like it hit with a bang and stopped turning over. I suspect the timing belt, i.e. valve hitting piston. I tried to rotate the engine by pulling on the rear tire with no compression but it didn't budge and I didn't want to force it. I also noticet some small damage to the timing belt vover from when I laid it down due to dirt in a turn at 50 mph. There is a small hole punched into the chrome cover on the left upper side. Looks to be right over the belt to me. Crappola!

Take the timing belt cover off - it may just be jammed up there - then it should be a simple fix - figners crossed.
