GL1100 Aspencade rear brake pistons

Postby Old Fogey » Wed Mar 04, 2015 8:37 pm

Calling all owners of the '82 GL1100 Aspencade only.

As many of you will know, we list stainless steel pistons for all four cylinder Goldwings, plus many others as well:

http://www.wingovations.com/stainless-s ... 4588578196

We ran up against the GL1100 Aspy whilst doing research into these. It uses a unique piston 45107-MB9-871
Honda no longer list them (surprise, surprise) and no-one is making them because it is a one-bike, one-year only part.

So, this is to see if there is any demand for them. If we can get sufficient serious interest, we might have some made.

I found 3 of them on eBay, brand new, in their original packaging.

I did look on eBay yesterday, didn't find any.

But that's the problem, Stuart. For what should be a normal service item, you are having to go and hunt the world for them. There's threads on forums going back to 2010 from folk who have not been able to find them. We were thinking to have some made and listed where everyone can find them, but I was trying to find out what the demand was. I have no way of knowing how many of this one bike is still in circulation, hence this thread.

Stuart,
Just checked eBay again. Still didn't find any, but did find -781; not the same!

Have you got a link?

what I did was take your OEM part number, copy and paste it into eBay's searchbox and it brought up the page with them on it. as far as knowing how many of these wings are still out there, well, that's gonna be a little hard to find out. the only thing I can suggest is having about 500 of them made and hopefully they will be needed by wing owners. you can always have more made, but you'll be sitting on the ones you have made them until they're all sold and who knows how long that will be.

That was what I did on eBay, but none of the pistons shown through that search is the correct one; they are all -781

We may just go ahead and produce some, because at the worst we can trim 4mm off any that are not selling and make them into another part number.

Partsnmore did advertise that they had them...but several people who ordered them ended up getting the wrong size, so I don't think they are accounting for the 82 Aspy being different than all other bikes.

So apart from used or NOS stuff appearing on eBay once in a while, you're pretty much out of luck.

well, according to my parts catalog, the pistons used on the '82 aspy's are all the same, front and rear, and the stock OEM # is.......45104-MA3-006. now I took this part number and went onto eBay and typed it into the searchbox and did find a few of them in there. they are listed as part of rebuilding kits for the '82 and '83 GL1100.

The problems with this bike are the same reason that we can't as yet supply a new rear disc for it.

EBC puts out new rear brake rotors for this bike, but it is VERY expensive. almost $300.00 US. I got lucky with my 38 aspy. I found 2 brand new never used front rotors on craigslist for $100.00 for the pair so im extremely happy about that.

unfortunately yes. there are some parts on the 83 aspy that will only fit on the 83 aspy and can not be interchanged with any other g/w, IE: the LCD dash, front rotors, the electronic speedo gear housing and a few other parts that I cant think of off hand.

Ah, yes.........I can't see or read!

Just checked the listing you posted. Not the right one for the rear. They need to be 39mm long. OK for the front though (but they're not stainless!)
