Tach drive seal
Has anyone ever changed the tach cable drive seal on the fuel pump? I can`t figure out how to get the old one out. Finally got tired of oil driping on my shoe.

There is a bolt that holds the tach cable in place look at the housing it's obvious which one...remove bolt, pull cable out fish o ring out.

Re: Tach drive seal
I wondered what was seeping on the back of the fuel pump causing dirt to accumulate. I think you've given me a clue what to look for. Is it a matter of replacing an O-ring or is it some other kind of seal?

Re: Tach drive seal
It is a oil seal not an O-ring. Costs about $3.50. Got mine from Honda dealer as shipping and minimum orders made it more expensive to order on-line. I couldn`t figure out how to get the old seal out, so I took it to a mechanic friend. He got a screwdriver under the gear and pushed the whole shaft out, replaced everything and pressed it back together.

Re: Tach drive seal
Done. I used a small pick to hook the seal (being careful not to score the the shaft or the sides of the hole and with a little grunt was able to pull the old seal out. I seated the new seal with some gentle taping on a long socket of just the right size.
