from what my manual shows, (80-83), and from physically looking at my new spare clutch, assuming they all go into the basket in the same order, all the tabs on the clutch disks are the same size including the first one and the last one. they go into the basket, from outside to inside, friction being the clutch fiber disks and metal being the clutch metal plates.......friction, metal, friction, metal, friction, metal, friction, damper plate, friction, metal, friction, metal, friction metal, friction.

well, if it does, I cant find it and I've checked my manual and the complete one I have that was never taken apart and is still sitting in its original basket. my manual says nothing about one of the disks having a larger tap on it. maybe my manual is wrong? I don't know.

ok, that set up says its for the GL1000, is it the same for the GL1100? where is the difference in the tabs. they all look the same to me, but according to the pics, and what the person says, the one with the large tabs (tangs) was the first one to come out of the basket. if the difference is in the width of the tab, its a very small difference. you almost need a micrometer to measure it with.

Just match your new/replacement disks to what's in the bike now. Why do you care what "somebody" said?

how rude. its not about what "someone said", its about the person that took the time to do and make a posting with photos of how to "remove and replace" the clutch "shows". THATS why you should care.

Stuart, it isn`t about johnny smokes effort to help, he`s a respected voice here, it`s about helping a fellow wing rider get his bike going again.

I understand that, but to me it sounded like you were being rude about someone else's effort it took to make that posting with all those pics on how to do the work on the bike. if I made the wrong assumption I apologize, and to who ever it was that made that posting with all the photos of the tools and diagrams on the other website, excellent job.

Auctioneeral, as shown in Hondas parts fiche, the clutch center side, outer friction disk (B), #5, does have a different part #, 22202-463-000, 1 required, $13.58 @ your local Honda dealer. The illustration doesn`t show tab size, and I stand by my recommendation to match what you have with what you get.

Ok i got back together. Now with it all back together and funny nut tight up. Is it normal to have about a 1/4" gap feel play between the disc when all put together. Another way of putting it is its all together and you can move the friction disc back and forward about 1/4". I would think not because, clutch lever would have to be pulled at least 1/4" before the friction disc make contact with each other when it gets squeeze together to stop disc from turning.
I have all the disc in it. And they all measured within service limit.

Now a little history on bike. I notice when i took motor out of bike that the clutch cable connected at motor end somebody before me had both adjusting nuts on the top side of lever. Not one on bottom and top. Both on top.

Was the "big tab" on the inside or outside of which disk/plate?

Well nice day today. So i been working on putting motor back together. Got everything done except the carbs. One motor almost ready to drop in a bike to see how it run's. This is the rattling motor one with the bend valves it had.

I did not see an answer to your question. There should not be 1/4 of play.

I dealt with my clutch at the end of the summer. Pulled it out, put it in. It didn't work...so, out and in again a few times. In the end I needed to replace the basket. (I did try to file it while it was still on the bike-not much luck) So this winter I pulled the motor and replaced the basket. My bigger point it that I don't recall any play between the disks. There is, however, a slight bit if you pull the group up from the basket. Is that what you mean? But not between the disks. The video will help.

The disc with the big tabs (tangs) is closest to the back of the bike when installed.

It's my understanding that you should soak the disk in oil for 48 hrs before installing them, Is this true or false? and I understand that if it's not soaked for 48 hrs, the life of the disks could be shortened....True or false? This is based on a guy I saw doing his clutch repair on youtube....? I haven't had to replace mine yet....

I'm confuse now , but it dont take much to screw me up.
You say the larger tang on disc goes toward the front of motor.
But this picture is showing it being the last disc, which would put it to the back of motor.
