Driver Saddlebag Question

Postby sportsfreaked » Sun Mar 22, 2015 4:06 pm

On my 1981 gl1100I the driver side saddle bag has 2 holes toward the bottom on the front of the saddlebag I would say one is about 3/4 or a inch in diameter and the other about 1/2 inch in diameter. Are these suppose to be there, and if so what are they for? They look like they came like that from the factory. I might also add I have no idea if these are actually from an 1981.

I would also like to say thanks to everyone on the site who has been very helpful and informative to this newbie! The How-To-Articles are amazing!

Thanks to all who answer and help. It is greatly appreciated!

can you post a pic of the saddlebag and the location of the holes that are in it? that would make it easer to figure out what they are for.

As I look at it with my glasses on it appears not tot be factory holes but let me know what you think. Thanks.
. The holes are closer to the seat side of the back .

is it possible that someone put some add on lights there? I need a larger picture of the saddlebag to try to figure out why they are there. its also possible that someone made a helmet holder with a steel cable that goes thru the "D" loop of the helmet and put the cable in the saddlebag and ran it thru to the outside with a lock on it, but im just venturing a guess from what I can see.

Stuart thanks for the ideas. I was just more curious then anything. I will seal them up somehow until I can get a new saddlebag. That's way down at the bottom of the list after my tires, spline greasing, new gear oil, fork rebuild, speedometer change, timing belts, coolant change and oil change. I hope that will be it for now and then onto some cosmetic stuff. Thanks for the replies :).
