Looking for fairing pocket cover

Postby pschweitzer » Mon Mar 23, 2015 7:26 am

The subject is a bit misleading. In restoring everything on my '83 Interstate I removed the after market car radio that was mounted in the right pocket. I need to replace that pocket as the PO hacked that piece. Luckily the leather cover is still good. I decided I just want to ride so, I am forgoing radios, CB's and the like for now. In the pocket where the Clarion radio is mounted, the PO just stuffed a bit of foam to cover the wire harness hole. In some old pictures I noted a blank Honda cover that was in place if the radio wasn't there. Does anyone know where I can find one or have one in their parts box they want to part with?

Now that's going to be a tough piece to find. I think I would try to fabricate something yourself.

Thanks WingAdmin. That was plan B, but with this forum you just never know what someone has stuffed away somewhere.

unless your bike has a Vetter fairing on it in which both pocket covers are leather, the stock Hondaline fairing has 1 plastic cover and 1 leather cover. the leather cover goes on the left pocket and the plastic cover goes on the right pocket. which cover are you looking for. a pic of your fairing would be more help, (hint hint).

first he needs to figure out which pocket cover he needs. he stated that his radio was mounted in the RIGHT side pocket, well the right side Hondaline fairing pocket cover is plastic with a key lock and the LEFT side is the leather cover.

And my spare Vetter has hard plastic covers for both side pockets. :P

I'll take a picture and send. It is the LEFT slot where the radio goes. I need to replace the upper one as well from the hack job the PO did to install an auto radio (not a very good job. Looked like it was done with a chisel and hammer). I have the radio insert, but that has the slots in the back for all the wiring, and that is what I want to close off. I was googling around to see if anyone had built a pocket or blank plate and came across a picture of a Honda fairing with a Honda cover. Of course now I can't find that picture again, so like WingAdmin stated I might be making one myself. That's not a big deal since I have the insert to use as a template. This is a Hondaline fairing.

I'm lost again. I thought I had this one deciphered but now I'm not sure. Upper what as well? There is no upper left slot where the radio goes. Upper pocket? Pocket cover? Left or right? Leather? Plastic? Help us help you!!

That would be the cover plate I linked then.
PLATE, RADIO HOLDER
64231-463-770.
Discontinued, so your best bet is probably Ebay or like WA said, fabricate something. You could even look for a radio control panel from a bunk one and fill it with that.
Let this end the leather vs plastic debate but at least I know now how to replace buttons on the leather vest I'll never own

Pictures do have a way of straightening out what he wants.

I have one someplace in my garage and I will never use it.
Send me a pm with an offer to include shipping. I will then go look for it and send a pic of it.

OK I learned my lesson. Pictures first. With a bit of help from Roadwanderer I found one. Hopefully I can return the favor someday. PO gave me 2 boxes of spare parts that I really need to catalog. Right now though, the weather is getting warmer and I think I have all the mechanical gremlins sorted for the time being. I live in Northern VA near Skyline Drive. Probably over 100 riders went past my house Saturday. It's time to get on the road (after I sneak into downtown to get my inspection done. It's a bit past due  )

Thanks for all the help and the lively discussion.
