1983 carbs

Postby Dave Broich » Thu Mar 26, 2015 4:00 pm

I recently rebuilt an 1983 carb but I just cant get them to stop leaking, I used permaseal form a gasket on the O-rings on all the cross feeders, and when I get one pluged another leak starts on a different side, it gets old, thanks Dave.

DO GOT USE ANY TYPE OF SEALER ON THE CARBS. Just a small pc. will screw carbs up in a hole.
Here's what i would do, unless your all ready doing this. Do a bench test for fuel leaks.
Lay carb rack on work bench and take a extra 4" fuel line attach to carbs and use a lawn mower fuel tank and have that up about 4-5 ft. higher then carbs. that way fuel runs into carbs and you can look around to see where leaks are. If you dont have a extra tank just fill fuel line up with fuel and hold it up along wall so how.

Did you use new O-rings for the cross overs.

Yes I did put sealer on the o rings but dint put all new ones on, I have seen them stop with a little driving, just gatta keep them rings from drying out, I might replace them all now and do the bench test before they go back in, do they have to have some pressure on the gas or will gravity do the trick? thanks Dave.

Just gravity. I learned hard way on trying to use 30 year old orings. It don't pay to reuse them.
