removing the clutch (pack) from an '82 1100

Postby jerseydogg » Wed Apr 08, 2015 6:38 pm

I'm trying to remove the clutch plates from my 82 wing (1100).

1. The motor is off of the bike
2. The motor itself will not turn.
3. everything is off of the back of the motor.
4. the nut is just spinning, in either direction

What is the best way to get this nut off? How do I stop the nut from spinning without damaging anything?

Is the nut suppose to be turning in both directions?

This is my first open heart surgery on any bike.

what do you mean everything is off of the back of the motor. Do you mean you took the big back cover off.

Yes, the back cover is off and you'd be looking directly at the nut that holds the clutch on.......

That nut should screw right off.

If your talking about this big nut which is behind the clutch springs, it should screw off counter clockwise and tighten clockwise.

yes, the nut behind springs. I tapped back the locking tabs and the nut spins in both directions, clockwise and counterclockwise....

The nut, the shaft (that the nut is on) and the clutch basket (if that's what it is called)... all spin together.

Put a couple of bolts and springs back to lock it together and put a wrench on the stator bolt to keep it from turning.
