GL1100 starting issues

Postby VentedGibbon » Sat Apr 11, 2015 4:02 pm

Hey guys. I hope everyone is having a pleasant weekend. I got the Goldwing started, kind of. If I roll the throttle back it will start. Drops below 2000 rpms it dies. Let the throttle go it dies. Choke seems to have no effect. Tons of smoke and it blew a small river of water out the exhaust. Lots of smoke coming from the bottom as well but it looks like old junk burning off.

It sat for about 5 years i was praying to the almighty that the carbs were OK and it seems to run on all cylinders above 3000 rpms. Could this have anything to do with a new throttle cable? Could the carbs still need to be cleaned? I put high octane gas in it which makes my Nighthawk run smoother with less knocks so I did the same for my GL.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

If it sat for 5 years I would almost guarantee that the carbs need to be cleaned and or rebuilt especially if it sat with gas in it. I'm no expert by any means I'm just going by what I have read on here and elsewhere. I am sure others will chime in that have more experience. Ed
Thanks to all who answer and help. It is greatly appreciated!

I was really hoping to not pull the carbs but it looks like I will have to. Thanks for the quick reply.
