overheating

I HAVE A 1982 GOLDWING 1100 ASPENCADE.THE TEMP GAGE GOES ALL THE WAY UP TO OVERHEATING RANGE WHEN I AM ON THE HIGHWAY AT NORMAL RUNNING SPEED.IT GOES BACK DOWN AS SOON AS SLOW DOWN AND JUST DRIVE SLOW AROUND TOWN.CAN ANY ONE HELP?

First off...is the fuel gauge malfunctioning at the same time the temperature gauge is showing overheating? If so, then the problem is your 7 volt regulator.

Otherwise, this can be caused by a few different things:

- Air in coolant - needs to be purged
- Malfunctioning thermostat - needs to be replaced
- Radiator core plugged - needs to be flushed/cleaned or replaced

The cheapest and easiest one to do is to purge any air that is in the system. You can see instructions on purging the system of air here: How to replace your radiator hoses
