charging system

Postby Raj » Thu Apr 23, 2015 8:58 pm

The voltage indicator on my 82 GL1100 A suddenly stopped showing a charge, but the battery tests that It is charged. Anybody know if it' s just the gauge or , heaven forbid, the alternator?

If the test shows that it is charged, it is a pretty good chance that your gauge that is the problem. Try using a multimeter and see if it looks like the alternator is putting out enough to recharge your battery.

You could just have a loose wire connection at the back of your voltage meter.

Run a multimeter across your battery when runnig - if the voltage increase when you rev - and up to 14.0 volts or so - then you are fine...chase the issue through your gauge..

I bet it's just a loose wire as well...

I was happy to see that the battery is being charged according to the volt meter, now I just have to find the bad connection to the instrument gauge. It's strange that the light bulb comes on but the needle doesn't move at all.
