fork seals replacement

Postby Raj » Sat Apr 25, 2015 7:03 pm

So I began the fork seal job on the 82 GL 1100A. Decided to leave the tubes on the bike and all was going well untill it was time to split the sliders. HOW DO THEY COME APART?
I even managed to remove the "allen bolts from the bottom of the sliders without stripping them.
I don't want to beat the slidders off for fear of damaging them.Seeking words of wisdom please.

There is a snap ring under the dust boot. You need a good quality angeled snap ring pliers to remove it. Then just slide the lowers off, might take a little agressive sliding to pop the seals free. May as well replace the slider bushings while you are in there, they are cheap enough. 8-)
Ride safe, Todd
